The Boston College Eagles are nearing the official announcement of the Bill O’Brien hire, per various reports.
It was clear from the beginning that O’Brien was the Eagles’ top guy, and they acquired him to be the head of the program after the unexpected departure from Jeff Hafley — who left for a defensive coordinator job with the Packers.
There were several reports from the Ohio State media Thursday that the Eagles had O’Brien locked in at the position, though ESPN’s Pete Thamel noted that night that no hire was made and that a decision would be made Friday. However, sources told Eagles Daily Thursday that it was still surely going to be O’Brien despite Thamel’s report, which aligned with Rivals’ Kevin Stone’s reporting that they were indeed going with O’Brien.
While the Eagles haven’t officially announced it, the announcement of the hire and the upcoming press conference is imminent as O’Brien looks to build on a 7-6 season.
